Hangarau Whare

Over the past few weeks we have had a challenge in our classroom to design and build a whare for our 3D pā. Mr Roberts our principal was the judge and we had criteria 1. How creative is the tekoteko? 2. The design of the whare, colour, roof material and layout. 3 Construction of the whare. Only three whare were able to be selected for our 3D pā and one pātaka. There were two whare used for sleepng in called wharemoe, one whare for eating in called a wharekai and one pātaka for storing food. Here are our winning whare.

These are the others that were designed and constructed.

Finally here is the pātaka.

  1. I really enjoyed judging your whares, although it was very difficult choosing the winners. I was impressed with the thought and effort you put into your constructions. Would you like to live in a whare that you designed?

    1. Yes I would like to live in a Whare that I designed,
because it is my own creation and I could make my bed room the way I want.

  12. Bonjour Te Puna o te Reo 3. I am a student in Mamaku. Those pa's look so cool I like the way some of them have a taniwha and I also like the colours that you chose. Maybe next time you could put a fire or something small next to the Pa. This reminds me of the Marae that I visited in Wellington.
