Today we have been looking at how to use Storyboard That to create a storyboard. Our focus was How to get to school on time.
Take a look at some of our blogs to see what we have been creating.
Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to our blog. We are a small reo rua (bilingual) class of year 4-6 tamariki in Ōtautahi. Our blog is a way that we can share our learning with the world and it gives our tamariki an authentic audience. It is also a place for us to trial new and exciting technology. Please leave us a comment and follow us if you want to see more of what we are doing. Mauri ora

Discovering Geo Boards
Today we have discovered geo boards in our classroom. We have been working with the geometry strand this term and so the geo boards have been a fun hands on activity to show how much we have learnt about polygons and angles. The tamariki have also created screencastify posts to share what they have learnt.

Taumutu Marae
We have been studying local stories this term and one of the stories was how the tuna (eel) came to be. We went with Ruma 4 to visit the lake that we had been learning about which was out near Taumutu Marae. We spent the day there learning about all sorts of stories and had a great time.

Whānau Expertise
At our whānau hui last week we were discussing giving whānau the chance to come into school and share their expertise if they felt they were able to contribute to some of our kaupapa. We had one mum Whaea Sam who was happy to come and join our kapahaka practise and give the tamariki a few performance pointers. We have a performance on Thursday night and so are in the process of getting our bracket to the point where the tamariki feel proud to share what they have learnt with the community. Ngā mihi Whaea Sam.

Our journey to Rehua marae
Today in rūma toru we went to Rehua marae. To get there we travelled on the bus. When we arrived we put our bags down and prepared for the pōwhiri. We went into the wharenui where we listened to Matua Timairiki. We did a waiata to support the people who spoke.
After we had kai we went back into the wharenui and listened to Matua Ritchie talk about the whare and how it got built.
Some things we learnt about Rehua marae;
- The poupou in the marae represented iwi from around New Zealand.
- The whare represented our tūpuna. The whare is a person and we can see the spine and ribs.
- Learnt new kupu māori.
- Tahu Potiki and his ancestors.
- The tūpuna on the walls.
- The full name of Rehua: Te Whatu Manawa Māoritanga O Rehua
- Built-in 1960.
After we had tūakana/teina where we drew and talked about our favourite part of the whare.

Mahi Toi - Selfie Portraits
In rūma toru we have been making selfie portraits with Whaea Taylor using multiple medias. We created our backgrounds using watercolours and then our faces with oil pastels.
After we finished we made padlet about things that challenged us, things that we learnt and things that we enjoyed about this process.

Manuhiri
This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of students from Sonoda Women's University and their teachers to the school. Alyssa welcomed them and we did a waiata to support her. Then we broke into groups and the Japanese students read us picture books that they had translated into English of very old traditional Japanese fables.
Tāne Whakapiripiri
Last week we learnt about Tāne Whakapiripiri and what he represents. We learnt that he is the atua of the buildings that provide shelter to bring people together. In Winter he works harder because the buildings keep people warm.

Swimming in Ruma 3
WALT float on our backs.
Today Ruma 3 enjoyed the swimming pool and we were all able to float on our backs. Whaea Heather was really pleased with our progress. It was a nice way to cool down as well.

Designing our classroom treaty.
Today we read the book The Tree Hut Treaty written by Wiremu Grace. After discussing it we realised that we could all contribute ideas to create our own classroom treaty. We worked in groups brainstorming our ideas of things that are important for our classroom to be a safe and happy place for learning and then we shared them. Next week we will write up our new classroom treaty.
Mihi Whakatau
Kia ora koutou
Today we had a mihi whakatau to welcome the new tamariki and whānau to Te Mahuri Mānuka (Hornby Primary School). It went really well with lots of whānau turning up. First Whaea Rovena did a karanga and Whaea Christine replied. Then Matua Hector started a haka and we all followed. It was amazing. After that we had 3 kaikōrero and waiata finishing with a hongi and some kai.
What a great way to start the year.
